The internet was still over 10 years in the future and the technology of digital photography was at least as far away. We've learned to control light using combinations of aperture, shutter and the ISO (formerly film speed) settings, but we can also use the built-in flash. Actually, when it gets dark we have to use the camera flash for the light by which to paint our photograph. In our last session, I mentioned the merits of using flash fill in daylight photographs to fill in shadows cast by the sun or to insure a good exposure of a subject with a bright background. Massachusetts Audubon's Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary is offering two very different looks at the Topsfield property on Sunday. Take the Big Woods Hike, a family walk with a naturalist guide that covers some serious ground. Or check out "Sanctuary Places and Wildlife," an exhibit of sanctuary photography by volunteers Kevin Fitzpatrick and Alex Kumar. East Greenwich Township resident Frank Carfagno received top prize for his non-professional sculpture and four other Gloucester County residents took home honors at the 39th annual New Jersey Senior Citizens Art Exhibit in Hunterdon County last month. The other four winners were Alberta Lucheske of Mantua, first place in media non-professional; Ray Campbell of Mullica Hill, honorable mention in pastel; Edith Gutin of Deptford, honorable mention in watercolor; and Sarah Groff of Pitman, honorable mention in print. Thirteen artists from Gloucester County first place winners in the 40th annual Gloucester County Juried Art Show participated in the annual event sponsored by the Hunterdon County Division of Senior Services in Flemington.
